Our Story: Buriram's First Hotel, Since 1966

Before Buriram was Thailand's Sport City, it had one hotel — ours.

The Grand Hotel opened in 1966 as the city's first-ever hotel, on a prominent corner of Niwas Road where it has stood ever since. Generations of traders, teachers, officials and travellers passing through Isaan checked in under our original hotel sign — the same sign, restored, that glows over the street today.

The 2020 rebirth

When we refurbished the hotel in 2020, we made an unusual decision: instead of hiding the building's age, we celebrated it. We rediscovered the hotel's mid-century details and made them the heart of the redesign — the 1960s furniture in the lobby and breakfast room, terrazzo and timber textures, and artwork by local artists and craftsmen throughout. The result is a rare thing: a contemporary hotel that kept its beautiful original features, offering an eclectic mix of past and present.

What that means for your stay

Today the Grand Hotel Buriram offers 62 individually styled rooms across five types — from cosy Standard rooms to Family rooms and our boutique Bunk Room — plus a café serving continental breakfasts with locally sourced products, laundry, an elevator, airport shuttle and ample free parking. The railway station is 250 metres up the street, the night market is a short stroll, and the whole of Thailand's Sport City is within a 15-minute drive.

We're proud of where we've come from, and prouder of where Buriram is going. Come and be part of the story.
